Drama Foundations:
This course is designed to help 7th grade students improve their self-confidence and self-awareness through exposing them to public speaking and drama. The class combines acting and speaking activities. Students will learn organizational skills, class presentation and speaking techniques. They will also study movement, improvisation, pantomime and effective use of the voice.

Drama 1:
This course is for the 8th or 9th grade student interested in delving deeper into the basic elements of drama. The class is designed for students to learn of, enjoy, and increase their appreciation of the arts. Throughout the course, they will expand on characterization in scenes, monologues, and other performances and critique performances they view both in and out of class.

Drama 2:
This course focuses on scene work, with an introduction to directing, creation of a performance, adaptation of books to the stage, perform for local elementaries, exposure to advanced acting techniques, and theatre history. Drama Foundations and Drama 1 are prerequisites to this class.

Advanced Drama:
This is an AUDITION ONLY class. The audition consists of a 1 minute monologue performed for Ms. Johnson during registration time. It is available during Second Semester only. In this class we will be working on a full length production that ALL students are involved in. Outside performance time is required by ALL students on specific performance dates. In this class you will experience everything needed to put on a production from acting, designing, directing and advertising.

This is an exciting class to be a part of. All students will receive hands-on experience in organizing, implementing, and designing in major areas of producing a theatrical performance--including set, costumes, props, publicity, etc. As a class, we are responsible for the preparation and implementation of the technical aspects involved in all theatre productions at Orem Junior High School. Through participation and effort, the students will develop a sense of responsibility, dependability, teamwork, cooperation, and organization.
Students will study theater lighting, sound, costumes, makeup, scenery, properties, stage-management, and technical design. Students will be involved in all areas of technical theater. If you are interested in being on the Tech Crew, you MUST be enrolled for BOTH semesters. This class requires evening and out-of-school time during rehearsals and performances of the show(s) during the semester. Must receive instructor approval for enrollment. You can pick up a Stage Crew packet from your counselor. Stage crew also explores aspects of design for both straight plays and musicals.
